A war story started with the premise “death isn’t the only thing that can kill you” and evolved, through a tactile and performative approach to filmmaking, into an exploration of subjective expression and Ernie Gehr’s “emoted idea.” A blend of narrative, documentary, and poetic styles, the film seeks to create, in the spectator, the experience of being in someone’s head and subconsciously understanding an emptiness, grief, and humanness that is at once intensely embodied and not quite there. Playing with texture, layers, color, and focus, the film ultimately exists as an experiment in experimenting with the communicative possibilities of cinema.
